So today I wanted to do my walk but it was cold and drizzly. I waited... and waited… and in the end just had to wrap up warm and go for it.
There's a webpage that tells me the phase of the moon – right now it is a '2% waxing crescent'. This always used to be called the new moon (and in some cultures it still is). A thin sliver of moon can be seen and in New Zealand it appears like a 'C'. It is during this phase that the rest of the moon may be faintly visible because the earth reflects sunlight onto the moon. The image of the crescent and the faint moon together is called 'the old moon in the young moon's arms'. (I'd love to get a picture of that – but for now, check out this link.)
The new moon is a time of beginnings and is the perfect time to start a new project (like my practice!!) It is about moving from darkness to light. We all have our dark burdens, we pick them up as we go through life. But whatever we have experienced in the past – it is past. There is always time for a fresh start.
It's like turning to a new blank page. How will you fill it?
